Job Description

I.             General Job Objective

The Counselor / Psychologist will be responsible to the patient counseling, in order to help the patient comply with and take the medication regimen

II.            Key Job Responsibilities

1.  Counsel patients for:

•             Adherence and compliance

•             Family planning (couple counseling)

•             Intimacy

•             Infection control measures

•             Basic medical and nutritional information

•             Side effects know how and remedies (consult physician)

2. Conduct contact screening

3. Ensure effective communication between the treatment coordinator, treatment supporter, clinician and patient

4. Conduct patient retrieval via the field team on the phone and other wise

5. Maintain and complete documentation on each patient under his/her treatment

6. Report issues with a patient to program, clinical and field teams

7.  Facilitate referral to a psychiatric facility for hospitalization, when necessary

8. Report weekly and monthly to the HOD (Counseling) and the MDR-TB Coordinator

9. Conduct baseline intake meetings with all DR-TB patients at the time of enrollment

10. Follow-up with each patient once every two months at the time of his/her follow-up visit

11. Implement data confidentiality protocols and infection control measures during counseling sessions

12. Provide effective reassurance, compassion and relevant information to the patients and his/her  family.
