Minimum 12 years of relevant experience, including 3-4 years in a managerial capacity. Vast experience of procurement, installation, and maintenance of biomedical equipment in a healthcare setup is required

BS/BE-Biomedical/Electronics engineering or a related field with a valid PEC License. (a Master's degree is preferred)

Job Description

The Head of Biomedical, North Region will be responsible for supervising and controlling the following aspects of biomedical services at the regional level:

I. STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

  • Leading and managing the Biomedical team at regional level, ensuring it is qualified, well-trained, and capable of meeting the job requirements.
  • Train, guide, and supervise biomedical leads, delegate tasks, monitor performance, and provide guidance to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Ensuring KPIs and reporting mechanisms for monitoring each position’s (under span of control) performance are in place and the same are being monitored on a regular basis with corrective actions taken, including personnel counseling and mentorship.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental policies & procedures, and performance benchmarks to align biomedical services with organizational goals.
  • Ensuring adequate and appropriate segregation of duties from internal controls perspective are in place.
  • Develop, implement, and manage short- and long-term strategic priorities and quality improvement initiatives for the department.
  • Fostering strong relationships with all stakeholders, including Supply Chain and Medical Directorate to support high-quality patient care. 

II. MEDICAL EQUIPMENT LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee medical equipment planning, procurement, technical evaluation, cost analysis, deployment, maintenance, and replacement of medical equipment across facilities.
  • Manage and coordinate biomedical engineering projects, including installation, configuration, and commissioning of clinical equipment.
  • Ensure the safe and effective use of medical devices. This involves installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and eventual decommissioning of equipment.
  • Oversee the design, modification, or custom fabrication of equipment based on clinical user requirements.
  • Advise senior leadership on emerging medical technologies and regional technology roadmaps.
  • Ensure and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance programs, including quality control checks to ensure ongoing equipment reliability.
  • Conduct regular downtime and trend analyses to identify root causes and reduce equipment unavailability.
  • Monitor and identify obsolete or high-maintenance devices and recommend appropriate replacements or upgrades.
  • Standardize equipment models, specifications, and maintenance practices across the region.
  • Support integration of medical equipment with digital health systems.
  • Lead replacement planning and capital equipment forecasting.

III. REGULATORY COMPLIANCE AND ACCREDITATIONS

  • Ensure compliance with national and international healthcare regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., JCIA, PMDC, PHC, provincial health authorities, ISO, etc.).
  • Lead regional biomedical audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure implementation of patient safety and equipment risk management programs.
  • Ensure competency assessments and certification compliance. 

IV. BUDGETING, PROCUREMENT & COST OPTIMIZATION

  • To provide functional support to campus management for preparation of yearly/new projects budgets, regular monitoring of utilization versus approved budgets; liaise with Biomedical campus leads, Finance, and head of campus.
  • Devises strategies and ensures implementation of cost control measures in the assigned areas.
  • Consolidate regional biomedical budgets and monitor cost utilization.
  • Provide technical leadership for centralized procurement and tender evaluations.
  • Provide technical leadership for centralized procurement and tender evaluations.
  • Negotiate service contracts, AMCs, warranties, and SLAs.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through standardization and shared services.

V. INCIDENTS, RISK & PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Review and investigate region-wide equipment-related incidents and sentinel events.
  • Ensure root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation.
  • Monitor KPIs, uptime, and service quality across hospitals.
  • Represent Biomedical Engineering in regional committees and leadership forums.
  • Design and implement regional training programs for biomedical and clinical staff on the proper and safe use of biomedical equipment.
  • Promote continuous professional development and knowledge sharing.

VI. OTHER TASKS

  • Perform any other task assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or by the management that commensurate with your knowledge and skills.
