Job Description
- Support the Nursing Manager, by bringing to attention any matter that he/she should be aware of e.g. accidents, incidents, changes in staff etc. In the absence of the Manager, the Assistant Manager will be expected to assume all responsibilities and duties.
- Participate and implement quality initiative to promote the highest possible standard of care.
- Keep up to date with new developments in nursing care and treatment.
- Assess, prescribe and evaluate care appropriately. Using the nursing care plans to show care required and keep this under daily review
- Detail round of all departments of hospital, ensuring that the nursing staff are following the standards of patient care.
- Maintain records in accordance with professional, regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Develop staff duty schedules, manage staff absences, and maintain staffing to an acceptable level; ensure adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs.
- Participate in regular staff meetings, addressing equipment, scheduling, goals and objectives, performance metrics and improvement activities, and any staff concerns. Ensure that equipment faults / maintenance problems are reported promptly to relevant individuals.
- Implement disciplinary procedures, in collaboration with the HR department, as and when necessary.
- Assist with the orientation and induction of new staff, ensuring that the newly hired staff must not be placed on board without CBO. Educate staff in new and existing department procedures and systems.
- Collaborate with other members of the team, including Nursing Manager and Admin / Operations Manager.
- Participate in training sessions for nursing staff and care assistants.
- Recommend and provide opportunities for the growth and development of personnel by arranging for appropriate education and training. Participate in training needs analysis activities and develop a training strategy for the nursing staff and care assistants at IHHN
