Mechanic - Travel & Accommodation

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, preferably working with commercial fleets or emergency response vehicles. Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare facility, or similar environment is preferred

Education

Middle preferably Matriculation, Vocational school certification in automotive mechanics or a related field is preferred. LTV driving license is strongly preferred.

Job Description

1.      Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

·         Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on the hospital’s vehicles (e.g., ambulances, official cars, support vehicles).

·         Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and other systems to diagnose issues and recommend solutions.

·         Conduct engine tune-ups, brake system repairs, suspension adjustments, and other necessary mechanical tasks.

2.      Safety & Compliance

·         Ensure all work meets the hospital’s safety standards, government regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.

·         Maintain vehicles in a state of readiness for critical patient transport, adhering to infection control and safety protocols specific to healthcare environments.

·         Perform quality control checks on completed work to minimize downtime and safety risks.

3.      Record-Keeping & Inventory Management

·         Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance and repairs, including parts used, labor hours, and completed work orders.

·         Monitor and manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment to ensure availability for emergency repairs.

·         Coordinate with the Travel & Accommodation Department and Supply Chain teams to order or restock necessary supplies and equipment.

4.      Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

·         Work closely with the Senior Officer (Travel & Accommodation Department) and Supervisors, drivers, and other hospital staff to identify and address vehicle-related issues promptly.

·         Provide mechanical expertise and training to drivers on basic vehicle checks and maintenance best practices.

·         Recommend process improvements to enhance fleet reliability, reduce costs, and maintain patient transport efficiency.

5.      Emergency & On-Call Support

·         Respond promptly to vehicle breakdowns and emergencies to ensure minimal disruption to patient care services.

·         Participate in on-call rotations or extended shift coverage as needed, particularly during critical transport situations or high-demand periods.

6.      Technical Skills:

·         Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing patrol and diesel engines, braking systems, electrical systems, and general mechanical components.

·         Familiarity with diagnostic tools, and electrical schematics.

7.      Soft Skills:

·         Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure in time-sensitive situations.

·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

·         Detail-oriented, organized, and able to maintain accurate records.
