Job Description

Job Summary:

The Bio-Medical Buyer is responsible for the end-to-end procurement of biomedical equipment, lab items, reagents, diagnostic consumables, service contracts, and spare parts in alignment with the hospital's operational and clinical needs. The role requires technical understanding, market awareness, and effective coordination with biomedical, laboratory, and user departments to ensure quality procurement while optimizing cost, delivery, and compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the procurement of biomedical equipment, lab instruments, reagents, diagnostic kits, consumables, and related services/spare parts.
  • Collaborate with user departments (Bio-Medical, Pathology, Radiology, etc.) to understand technical specifications and usage requirements.
  • Source qualified vendors for both local and international procurement in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Evaluate and process quotations, technical bids, comparative statements, and issue Purchase Orders (POs) through ERP or procurement systems.
  • Coordinate with logistics, warehousing, and biomedical engineering teams to ensure timely deliveries, installation, and commissioning.
  • Track and manage service contracts, warranties, preventive maintenance schedules, and AMC/CMC agreements.
  • Maintain updated documentation of vendor profiles, contracts, certificates (e.g., CE, ISO, FDA), and compliance with DRAP/import requirements.
  • Support CAPEX and OPEX procurement planning related to biomedical and diagnostic categories.
  • Conduct market research to stay informed about product innovations, new vendors, and pricing trends.
  • Ensure compliance with donor, regulatory, and institutional procurement policies, especially for grant-funded items.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations and procurement audits.
  • Should have understanding & consider standards for safety, performance, and quality. Key standards include IEC 60601-1, which covers basic safety and essential performance for medical electrical equipment, and various ISO standards relevant to medical devices.
