Job Description

A. PATIENT CARE

  • Develop and implement comprehensive anesthesia plans for various surgical procedures, including elective and emergency cases.
  • Conduct pre-anesthetic evaluations and consultations with patients and surgical teams.
  • Administer anesthetics to induce and maintain a state of controlled unconsciousness and pain relief during surgery.
  • Monitor and manage patient's vital life functions, such as heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, and body temperature, throughout the surgical procedure.
  • Manage the patient's airway and ensure adequate oxygenation and ventilation during and after surgery.
  • Provide post-acute and chronic pain relief to patients using various pharmacological and interventional approaches.
  • Perform pain-relieving procedures and prescribe medication to manage pain levels.
  • Counsel patients and their families on pain management strategies to improve health outcomes and recovery.
  • Provide comprehensive care for critically ill patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU).
  • Deliver advanced life support, including cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation, to critically ill patients.
  • Manage the recovery of patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and provide ongoing care in the surgical ward.
  • Consult the patients and their families and obtain informed consent for their treatment.
  • Monitor the patient's progress and modify the treatments as their conditions evolve.
  • Perform procedures within the limits of credentialing granted by the IHN.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families.
  • Ensure confidentiality and privacy of the patients.
  • Ensure the respect for dignity, cultural, religious and social sensitivities of the patients under the care.

B. QUALITY OF CARE AND PATIENT SAFETY

  • Ensure all patient care is delivered in compliance with the standards of care set by IHN, and provincial and national regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of all patient care interventions and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written and engage with other teams to facilitate high quality care.
  • Ensure the allocation of appropriate time, space and manpower for all patient care processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness by participating in major incident planning and responses.

C. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Participate in CME and in continuing professional development activities.
  • Participate and involve in relevant professional bodies and share work experience with others.
  • Participates in the training activities for capacity building at the workplace.
  • Guide and facilitate the colleagues in seeking knowledge and skills.
  • Provide and receive ongoing training to maintain essential certifications (e.g., BLS, ACLS, ATLS).
  • Participate in research initiatives.

D. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform any other task assigned by the Head of Department that is commensurate with their knowledge and skills.
