Job Description
- Supervise and coordinate the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Responsible for all fix & non fix inventory placed in CSSD premises
- Ensure all instruments, trays, and reusable medical devices are processed according to approved sterilization protocols and infection prevention standards.
- Arrange and maintain sterilization equipment, instruments, and supplies required for routine and specialized procedures.
- Schedule and supervise CSSD staff duties and shifts to ensure adequate departmental coverage and smooth workflow.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, biological and chemical indicator results, equipment maintenance, inventory usage, and staff attendance.
- Ensure compliance with aseptic techniques, sterilization procedures, and infection prevention and control standards.
- Verify the availability, functionality, and completeness of surgical instrument sets, equipment, and consumable items before dispatch to user departments and upon return for reprocessing.
- Monitor inventory levels of sterile supplies, consumables, and CSSD materials, initiating replenishment requests when required.
- Coordinate with Operation Theatre, Nursing, Biomedical Engineering, and other relevant departments to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments and equipment.
- Ensure proper handling, transportation, storage, and traceability of sterile and contaminated items.
- Conduct routine inspections of CSSD areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Implement and monitor quality assurance measures related to sterilization processes and patient safety.
- Ensure all sterilization equipment is routinely checked, validated, and reported for maintenance when required.
- Maintain effective communication with OT personnel, surgeons, nursing staff, and other stakeholders regarding instrument availability, shortages, repairs, and special requirements.
- Participate in staff training, competency assessments, and continuous quality improvement initiatives within the CSSD.
