Job Description

  • Supervise daily phlebotomy services across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency areas.
  • Ensure correct patient identification and samples accurately labeled and dispatch to the laboratory.
  • Monitor workload and allocate staff to ensure smooth operations and coverage.
  • Provide training, guidance, and orientation to new staff in accordance with approved SOPs and standard guidelines Manage phlebotomy duty rosters, attendance, leaves and ensure adequate coverage.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate phlebotomy staff. Prepare and manage duty rosters and leave schedules.
  • Conduct training, competency assessments, and performance management of phlebotomy staff.
  • Enforce discipline, SOP compliance, and professional conduct.
  • Ensure strict adherence to biosafety, infection control, and waste disposal protocols. Investigate and report incidents, needle-stick injuries, and adverse events.
  • Promote a patient-centered and safe service environment.
  • Ensure venipuncture and blood collection must be strictly conducted according to physicians' orders, hospital protocols, and approved SOPs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times, adhering to infection control and biosafety guidelines.
  • Monitor, maintain, and replenish phlebotomy supplies to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Ensure timely sample collection and coordination with laboratory sections across all hospital areas, including ER, OPD, and IPD, with priority coverage for ICU, NICU, CCU, and SICU.
  • Ensure disposal of biomedical waste and sharps, use of PPE according to hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation of all sample rejections, including reason for rejection and corrective action taken.
  • Actively participate in audits e.g. ISO 15189, PHHC, including documentation review, record maintenance, compliance with sample handling procedures, and preparation for internal and external inspections.
  • Ensure all phlebotomy and sample collection activities comply with ISO 15189 standards, SOPs, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Maintain appropriates records and statistics, monitor KPIs and make measures to improve the KPIs.
  • Perform any other task assigned by the immediate supervisor that is commensurate with your knowledge and skills.
