Job Description

  • Provide appropriate child life plans and interventions and identify strengths, dynamics, needs, and coping strategies to assist patients with chronic illnesses and support their families in coping with diagnosis, treatment, hospitalization, and loss.
  • Prepare children and families for medical procedures and surgeries by providing developmentally appropriate training.
  • Arrange and design activities for children to reduce their hospital-associated anxiety.
  •  Take an active leadership role in the development of Palliative Care Services in the hospital.
  • Develop policies related to Palliative Care provision to pediatric patients.
  • Develop bi-annual child life projects to improve patient care experience and service.
  • Meet training requirements on a quarterly/bi-annually and annual basis. Maintain professional competence by completing training modules as required by a health system, following research and evidence-based practices and also by participating in beneficial activities.
  • Provide Quality of Life counselling and grief counselling to patients and their caregivers.
  • Provide ongoing bereavement services when requested.
  • Plan and facilitate grief support groups and memorial events.
  • Develop a bereavement plan of care on all referrals and document the plan in the clinical record in accordance with standards.
  • Participate in the provision of support and supervision to interns and volunteers.
  • Develop research projects, and proposals and apply for grants to facilitate the development of Psychosocial services at the center.
  • Plan events for children to make hospital settings more child friendly.
  • Take part in National/International Days/holidays celebrations.
