Job Description

Task & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Nursing Manager, by bringing to attention any matter that he/she should be aware of e.g. accidents, incidents, changes in staff etc. In the absence of the Manager, the Assistant Manager will be expected to assume all responsibilities and duties.
  • Participate and implement quality initiative to promote the highest possible standard of care.
  • Keep up to date with new developments in nursing care and treatment.
  • Assess, prescribe and evaluate care appropriately. Using the nursing care plans to show care required and keep this under daily review
  • Detail round of all departments of hospital, ensuring that the nursing staff are following the standards of patient care.
  • Maintain records in accordance with professional, regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Develop staff duty schedules, manage staff absences, and maintain staffing to an acceptable level; ensure adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, addressing equipment, scheduling, goals and objectives, performance metrics and improvement activities, and any staff concerns. Ensure that equipment faults / maintenance problems are reported promptly to relevant individuals.
  • Implement disciplinary procedures, in collaboration with the HR department, as and when necessary.
